HOME STAY
Students will be placed with a local family close to the school as possible.
- Students are encouraged to interact with the host family to learn about and experience Canadian culture.
- This will be your child's home while studying in Canada.
- Your child will provided with a private room, bed, desk, bed linens, towels, laundry facilities,
and access to a phone for local calls only. Homestay varies from home to home.
- Three nutritious meals and two snacks will be provided. Please advise Canada GRAD
of any food allergies and sensitivities your child may have.
- Canada is a diverse and multi-cultural society. Canada GRAD will endeavor to place each student with an English speaking, local Canadian family.
Homes, room decor, and monthly rates will vary.
HOME STAY ETIQUETTE
Home stay families welcome you with open arms.
A few house rules to make your stay a
positive experience for every one:
- Your host family will explain to you the house rules regarding smoking and guests.
- Students are expected to abide by curfew times of the host family.
- Students are responsible for arriving daily to school on time.
- You will be expected to keep your room clean and tidy.
- Your host family will explain to you the proper use of appliances.
RENT
- First and last months rent to the home stay is due upon arrival to Canada,
unless otherwise arranged between the student and host family by Canada GRAD. - Rent is due the first day of the month.
- Rent is expected during vacation periods of the school year.
- Students can expect a receipt from the host family.
- One month notice must be given to the host family should the student decide to move from the home stay.
PHONE CALLS AND COMPUTERS
All phone calls made from home stay must be local. For long distant calls,
purchase phone cards or use your personal cell phone.
Arrange to make collect calls to home, unless an arrangement has been made with your host family
Bring with you a personal laptop computer for your own use.
Computer access may not be available from the host family.
LAUNDRY
You can expect clean sheets weekly and access to a washer and dryer to do your
personal laundry, unless otherwise arranged with your host family.
STUDENT SAFETY
Canada GRAD is concerned about student safety. All home-stays are equipped with
carbon monoxide and smoke detectors and equipped with adequate lightening. Home stay parents all establish
age appropriate curfews for students that must be followed.
COMMUNICATION
Communication between students and the host family is very important.
Students are expected to communicate truthfully and honestly.
Should an issue arise, students are encouraged to speak with the host family first.
If an issue cannot be resolved, then Canada GRAD should be contacted and a solution will be found to the best of Canada GRAD's ability. If a student cannot comply with
home stay house rules in general, then the student will
forfeit home stay placement through Canada Grad.
ACCESS TO THE HOME STAY
Students will be provided with a house key and instructed regarding home security devises.
PETS
In Canadian culture, it is very common for a home to have a cat or dog as a house pet.
Well trained dogs or cats are clean and friendly and make wonderful companions.
If you pet allergies, please inform Canada Grad.
